I've been called Product Designer, Art Director, Creative Director, Chief Creative Officer and VP. But when someone asks what I do, I always say, "I'm a designer." I love to architect an app or site so that nothing gets in the way of experiencing the product. I love to bring life to a brand through photography and illustration. I believe I can create in any medium and with any challenge in front of me, because I'm a designer.
The anti-agency
Is that too much to ask? I want to cut through the slow, expensive, bloated process plaguing most agencies and companies. Can't we be efficient while creating something beautiful and meaningful? My process is simple. Most of the time it's you working directly with me. I will assess your project and pull in the right people for the job, including developers, additional designers, writers and the occasional account manager as the job requires.
Chops
I was traditionally trained with a BFA in graphic design at Brigham Young University. There I learned the fundamentals of grid systems and typography. I've since worked on both the corporate and agency side of design projects including Adobe, Black Diamond, Motorola, KPMG, Cisco, Novell and others. I also freelance with some great agencies including Fuel Made, Traina Design and Blink Worldwide. I design, build brands, create content, architect sites and design apps.
What I am thinking about at 4:00am
Don't get me wrong, I'm not obsessing over my projects at four in the morning but it's nice to enjoy the things I work on. I like to spin ideas around in my head, trying to find the best solutions. I've had jobs that make me dread going to work on Monday morning. I'm done with that. Let's have some fun with your project. Let's quit designing by committee and stop using $10 words and let's use your strategy, a little common sense, and my experience, and we’ll design something great.
